Youth Ministry

Youth in grades 6th - 12th are fantastic! We're so pleased to have an active and meaningful ministry with and to youth at St. Matthias and their friends. We've got a simple goal: to build the faith of one another so that we can hold fast in tough times and celebrate in good times.

Youth Ministry is led by a team of Youth Sponsors with years of leadership and investing in the lives of youth. And they're good parents too. Our team is:

Parents are welcome at any youth activity, and all sponsors and other adult leaders are trained to keep your child safe as well as nurture their faith.

Youth Group

Youth Group is a time for you to express, explore, and experience your Christian faith. Youth Group gathers at 9:15am on Sunday mornings, just as the worship service begins. We meet downstairs in the youth area (the best seats in the house).

Retreats (Beyond and Quest)

St. Matthias youth join with other Episcopal youth from Colorado for two fantastic retreats each year:

"Beyond" in mid-October: a time to start off the school year with your youth group and get away for fun, great music, many indoor and outdoor games and fun, and a bit of time on what it means to be a Christian youth

Quest in April: a time to focus on daily Christian life, be with others who are on this quest, sing, dance, and pray together

For more information on Genesis and Quest, check out the Events Page on the Diocesan website http://www.dioco.org/youth-weekends.html or watch for promotion material posted here and at St. Matthias

and More...

We do some outings together: for fun, service, or who knows what. Here's some detail:

We serve others who are less fortunate or down on their luck, dinner three times a year at a church in Old Colorado City.

We have the opportunity to pack nutritious high energy meals to ship overseas as part of a non-profit organization, called "Feed My Starving Children" which empowers volunteers to pack meals for the malnourished in nearly 70 countries, hungry in body and spirit.

Youth Group Ski and Board Day is an opportunity for us to head out to shred and slice through Colorado's great powder.

We may take some summer hikes to explore places along our Front Range.

Confirmation Prep in the Colorado Springs Area: Confirmation is the public rite/ritual that gives youth ages 16 or older a chance to proclaim their faith and own, for themselves, the promises made for them at Baptism. The CS area Episcopal churches ban together for this preparation. It is a monthly commitment for 2 school years; 18 total gatherings, covering everything from serving others to why The Episcopal Church has bishops. More information is on the St. Mike's Confirmation page, here.
