Sunday Ministries


Sunday Ministries are those which provide for worship and other Sunday morning activities. As God has given every believer a gift for ministry, the norm at St. Matthias is for each member to serve in one or more Sunday Ministry. Below is a list of these ministries, a basic description, and a contact. To learn more about involvement, we encourage you to participate in the Discovering St. Matthias course and/or contact the leaders listed below.

Scheduling for Sunday Ministries


Sunday Ministries are scheduled 2 or more months at a time. Currently, Terry Newton coordinates scheduling via email.

Acolytes

Acolytes help provide for worship by carrying the cross and assisting the priest set the table for Holy Communion. This ministry is usually provided by the children and youth at St. Matthias. leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the altar for the celebration of the Eucharist or any of the other sacraments and offices of the church. In addition to preparing the altar, the team washes, irons and mends the altar linens, polishes the silver, and other labors of love that help worship. Some Altar Guild members, as well as other St. Matthias parishioners, use their bread-making skills to supply our communion bread. Leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. Chalice Bearers and Eucharistic Ministers

Chalice Bearing is the ministry of helping distribute Holy Communion. Ministers serve sacramental wine or bread, assisting the Celebrant. Ministry Leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Eucharistic Visitors take Holy Communion to those who are prevented from coming to worship due to illness, age, or the like. Ministry leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Choir and Music Ministry

The Choir serves the worshipers and our Lord by providing music/vocal songs, hymns, and anthems, and by supporting the singing of the congregation. Ministry leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Music Ministry: others support worship through the offering of their musical gifts on special occasions, and by the regular music accompaniment of our Organist/Pianist. 

Coffee Hour Hosts and Providers

Coffee Hour is a time of conversation and friendship that follows Sunday worship. Coffee Hour Hosts set up, serve, and clean up drinks and finger foods. Coffee Hour Providers provide the weekly foods for Coffee Hour. St. Matthias' Coffee Hour Host coordinates the providers and others to help with set up, serving, and clean up. Counters

Counters pair up to count the tithes and offerings made during Sunday worship and accurately prepare and make the deposit. Ministry Leader: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Flower Guild

Flower Guild members prepare fresh flower arrangements each week for the Sunday worship service, and provide sanctuary decorations for holy days and seasons such as Christmas, Palm Sunday, and Easter. Lay Readers

The ministry of Lay Reading is that of reading the Holy Scriptures during public worship. Lay Readers read so that the Word of God can be easily heard and comprehended. Lay Readers also lead the congregation in offering the appointed Psalm and the Prayers of the People. Ministry leader:This email address is being protected from spambots. Prayer Partners

Prayer Partners provide in-person intercession and laying on of hands for healing immediately following Sunday Worship. They partner with you and God to bring any request or thanksgiving to our Lord.

To receive the ministry of Prayer Partners, come to the altar rail following the Recessional Hymn; the Prayer Partners will be at the prei-dieu. The Prayer Partners will ask you about what you wish to have them pray. All prayer requests are confidential. You are free to have hands laid on you, hold hands with the Prayer Partners, or to decline such.

Ushers

Ushers welcome worshipers to St. Matthias and distribute bulletins after making sure the sanctuary and building are ready (opening blinds, shoveling walks, etc). Grocery Card Seller

Grocery Card Sellers "sell" grocery store cash cards/gift cards each Sunday following the worship service; this raises funds for mission and outreach through St. Matthias. Sellers record sales and collect payment. 5% of the face value of cards helps provide housing, missionary support, outreach, and other funds in the local community and world.
